1 Students who obtain a grade of A or B in ENGL 118 may complete their first year composition requirement with ENGL 102 or with a sophomore literature course in the English Department, or ENGL 355 . Students and their advisors are cautioned to ensure that engineering, technical, and/or general education elective course selections meet the General Education Writing Communication and Oral Communication requirements. |
2 Transfer students from other engineering departments may substitute EF 152 for PHYS 135 , PHYS 231 for PHYS 136 , and PHYS 232 for PHYS 250 . |
3 A total of 12 hours of engineering electives plus 9 hours of technical electives are required. Engineering electives should form a coherent group of courses taken in the College of Engineering. Technical electives may be taken in physics, engineering, math, other physical sciences, or astronomy. Engineering and technical electives must be approved by the advisor and department head. |
Honors Concentration
In addition to satisfying the requirements for the engineering physics major, candidates for the honors concentration must also complete the following requirements.
- First-year courses for honors concentrations in the engineering majors. (Note: Most of the honors requirements are course substitutions for the engineering physics major.)
- Two upper-division honors courses in engineering physics via Honors-by-Contract or Honors Independent Study. The contract or independent study must be submitted to the Chancellor’s Honors Program by the third week of the semester.
- A minimum of 3-credit hours of PHYS 493 and completion of a written senior thesis under faculty supervision and defended before a committee of three physics faculty members.
- GPA of at least 3.5 in 300- and 400-level mathematics and physics courses.
