Nuclear Safety Minor

The UT Department of Nuclear Engineering is developing a Center of Excellence in Nuclear Safety. At the Bachelor of Science Nuclear Engineering level, this includes a minor in Nuclear Safety. Students must file their intent to complete the minor with the Department of Nuclear Engineering prior to graduation. The program is administered through the Nuclear Engineering Department. The grade in each of the required classes must be at least a C. Students should consult with their advisor for the appropriate elective courses in their major.

Minor Requirements:

The minor consists of 16 credit hours, including the following 13 credits of core requirements:

Complete:

NE 360 - Reactor Systems and Safety 3 Credit Hours
NE 402 - Nuclear Engineering Laboratory 4 Credit Hours or
NE 427 - Honors: Nuclear Engineering Laboratory 4 Credit Hours
NE 485 - Process System Reliability and Safety 3 Credit Hours or
NE 585¹ - Process Systems Reliability and Safety 3 Credit Hours

NE 486 - Nuclear Licensing 3 Credit Hours or
NE 586¹ - Nuclear Licensing 3 Credit Hours

Choose one elective (3 hours):

NE 421 - Introduction to Nuclear Criticality Safety 3 Credit Hours
NE 483 - Introduction to Reliability Engineering 3 Credit Hours
