Arts and Sciences Exploratory Program

The College of Arts and Sciences Exploratory program is designed for students who are deciding among one or more majors in the College. It allows students to explore major options as well as make progress toward graduation through the completion of general education courses. Exploratory students are required to meet with their advisor every semester.
All full-time, degree-seeking UT Knoxville students who first entered Fall 2013 or later must transition out of the exploratory track into a major no later than the end of their fourth tracking semester. Transfer students with less than 45 hours of transferrable work who are admitted as exploratory students must transition out of the exploratory track into a major no later than the end of their second full semester at UT.

Term 1 Milestone Notes
Completion of at least 12 credit hours
Term 3
- Written Communication Elective 3 Credit Hours * Writing intensive course appropriate for major interest or elective if appropriate course has registration restrictions
- Oral Communication Elective 3 Credit Hours *
- Social Sciences or Global Citizenship – US Elective 3 Credit Hours * If Foreign Language was selected in term one, Social Science may be selected here.
- Arts and Humanities Elective 3 Credit Hours *
- Foreign Language Elective 3 Credit Hours * or general elective to explore a potential major. If intermediate competency has been met in foreign language, a general elective may be chosen here.
Term 3 Milestone Notes
- Quantitative Reasoning course 3-4 Credit Hours
- Natural Science course 4 Credit Hours
- Social Science or Foreign Language course 3 Credit Hours
