Major Requirements

The concentration in Latin consists of 30 hours.

Complete:

CLAS 299 - Research Practicum in Classics *

Select 18 hours:

Select 9 hours:

any 200-level or above Classics courses (see note below)
HIME 382 - Archaeology of the Biblical World
HIME 400 - History and Archaeology of Mesopotamia
PHIL 320 - Ancient Western Philosophy *
Note: CLAS 273 may not be used toward the major.

Latin – Honors Concentration

The Honors Latin concentration consists of 30 hours. The student must maintain a minimum B+ average in Latin language courses and a minimum cumulative B+ average at UT. In strict consultation with a departmental advisor, the student pursuing Honors in Greek will select 9 non-language hours from among the courses listed below, of which 6 must be in courses numbered 300 or higher. In total, the student must take a minimum of 15 hours of Honors courses, not all of which need to be in the major subject area. These 15 hours include 3 thesis hours (CLAS 498 ). The student will present an Honors thesis (CLAS 498 ) which must receive a grade of B+ or higher to permit graduation with Honors.
