The department offers the thesis and non-thesis options for the Master of Science. Both options require a minimum of 30 hours beyond the completion of a sound undergraduate major program. The MS program requires students to have some familiarity with key themes and approaches in both physical and human geography. At least two-thirds of the total hours in the degree program must be at or above the 500 level and must include GEOG 415 , GEOG 501  (at each offering during residency), GEOG 504 , and 3 hours at the 600 level. In the thesis option, 6 hours must be Thesis GEOG 500 . A final examination is required in both programs.
