Surveys the origins of the conflict between the superpowers of the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies; its ideological, military, political, social, cultural, and economic dimensions; the dynamic of mutually assured destruction in the nuclear standoff; and the reasons for the end of the Cold War.
