Advisor – Lay

Faculty mentors – Clark, Boyer, & Stripling

The Herbert College of Agriculture, as a partner in the University of Tennessee College of Law’s 3+3 Program, offers this pathway for qualified students to earn a bachelor’s degree and J.D. degree on an accelerated schedule.

Students pursuing this program complete their first three years of coursework in the Herbert College of Agriculture, fulfilling all University General Education requirements, completing courses in the Departments of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications, and Agricultural and Resource Economics, and successfully completing at least 90 credit hours of undergraduate coursework.

During their junior year, students will submit a J.D. admissions application (including Law School Admissions Test score) to the College of Law. Students accepted for admission will then enroll in J.D. classes in their fourth year. Upon successful completion of 30 credit hours of J.D. coursework, students will be awarded a B.S. degree in Agriculture with a concentration in Pre-Law. Students will receive the J.D. degree upon successful completion of the graduation requirements for that degree.

Students are initially advised in the Herbert College of Agriculture regarding undergraduate degree requirements and College of Law admission requirements and current standards. If a student chooses not to apply for J.D. admission or is denied admission, the student will have the opportunity to complete the B.S. degree through other coursework.
