Applied Cybersecurity Major, BS in Applied Cybersecurity

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Cybersecurity (BSCYBR) will consist of 120 total student credit hours, as required for any bachelor's degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). Out of the total 120 credit hours, 21 hours will be Applied Cybersecurity core courses, plus two capstone courses (6 credit hours). The BSCYBR is designed to prepare all the enrolled students to succeed in the workforce and therefore these 27 credit hours (9 courses) will orient students with foundational concepts of applied cybersecurity domain including foundations of cybersecurity, cybersecurity tools, cryptology, incident management, risk assessment and cybersecurity related laws and policies. Additionally, each student will then choose a combination of certificates or minors from the College of Emerging and Collaborative Studies and other UTK colleges made up of existing UTK courses. The students will be supported through the CECS advising center to customize their program by selecting relevant stackable certificate options. Each certificate offered by CECS consists of 12 credit hours, of which 3 credit hours are CECS-taught gateway or core courses and 9 credit hours are drawn from courses outside CECS at UTK. A certificate offered by another college may have a different number of credit hours and may not include courses offered by CECS. Students will be able to develop a highly customized cybersecurity curriculum by selecting certificates and/or minors and elective courses from across the University. Students will complete 51–58 credit hours of VolCore courses that provide the general education foundation for all bachelor’s students at the University of Tennessee. Additionally, students will have college- and university-wide free electives to complete their customized degree program.
