World Languages and Cultures Major, BA - Russian Studies Concentration

The Russian program at the University of Tennessee fosters linguistic, historical, and cultural knowledge about Russia and its subordinate ethnic groups. In addition to offering courses on language, literature and culture, the program facilitates study abroad through any of several nationally recognized study abroad programs.

Major Requirements

The Russian Studies concentration consists of 30 credit hours.

Required Russian language courses:

RUSS 311* - Russian Composition and Conversation 3 Credit Hours
RUSS 312* - Russian Composition and Conversation 3 Credit Hours
RUSS 401 - Advanced Grammar, Conversation, and Composition 3 Credit Hours
RUSS 402 - Advanced Grammar, Conversation, and Composition 3 Credit Hours
RUSS 451 - Senior Seminar 3 Credit Hours

B. Complete:

Select from any of the following culture, politics, and literature courses. Only 6 credit hours can be taken at the 200 level.

RUSS 221* - Rebels, Dreamers, and Fools: Shorter 19th Century Russian Literature 3 Credit Hours
RUSS 222* - Heaven or Hell: Utopias and Dystopias in 20th-Century Russian Literature 3 Credit Hours
Any RUSS courses numbered 300 and above.
