The Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs offers a minor in Public Affairs that is open to students pursuing any major. The minor is designed to acquaint students with the policymaking process, the challenges facing governments at all levels, and the communications and analytical skills necessary for effective citizen engagement.

Admission is competitive and will be based on student applications that demonstrate academic aptitude, interest in public policy and engagement outside the classroom. An admissions committee will make selections based on overall student promise and the potential for synergies across students in the cohort. Further information on the admission process and timetable are available on the Baker School website (http://bakerschool.utk.edu).

Admission Standards and Procedures

The Public Affairs minor includes 3 credit hours of prerequisite courses from the Vol Core (HBS 101 *) and 15 credit hours of required courses (HBS 201 , HBS 301 , HBS 302 , HBS 303 , or HBS 304 , and a HBS 400-level 3 credit course, selected by the student). Other courses to complete a concentration may be accepted upon approval by the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
