Major Requirements
The major consists of 33 hours, including: Select 24 upper-division hours including at least 6 hours at 400 level:
Select one course in European History:
Any HIEU course at the 300 or 400 level Select one course in United States History:
Any HIUS course at the 300 or 400 level Select two courses (from two different areas):
Africa: Any HIAF course at the 300 or 400 level
Asia: Any HIAS course at the 300 or 400 level
Latin America: Any HILA course at the 300 or 400 level
Middle East: Any HIME course at the 300 or 400 level
Select one course from Pre-1750 History:
Select 6 hours:
- any 300-400 level history courses
Honors Concentration – History
The honors concentration consists of 33 hours, 12 of which must be honors or honors-by-contract courses. The honors concentration provides history majors the opportunity to work with a faculty mentor on an individualized research project. All declared history majors with an overall GPA of at least 3.25 are invited to participate in the honors concentration. A grade of B or above must be maintained in all honors courses, along with an overall GPA of 3.25. Students interested in honors work at any level should consult the department’s honors coordinator.
