Classics Major, BA – Classical Civilization Concentration

Major Requirements
The concentration in classical civilization consists of 30 hours.
Select 9 hours:
- any 200-level or above Classics courses (except CLAS 273 )
Classical Civilization – Honors Concentration
The Honors Classical Civilization concentration consists of 30 hours. The required core of the major is CLAS 201 *, which the student must pass with a B+ or better. 9 hours may be from any courses in the Classics Department numbered 200 and above (excluding CLAS 273 ). In strict consultation with a departmental advisor, the student pursuing Honors in Classical Civilization will select an additional 15 hours from Classics CLAS 299 * and courses numbered 300 or above, HIME 382 and HIME 400 , and PHIL 320 , to design a program that will advance his or her understanding of a particular specialty within the field of Classical Civilization. To graduate with Honors, the student must maintain a minimum B+ average in Classics Department courses and a minimum cumulative B+ average at UT. In total, the student must take a minimum of 15 hours of Honors courses, not all of which need to be in the major subject area. These 15 hours include 3 thesis hours (CLAS 498 ). The student will present an Honors thesis (CLAS 498 ) which must receive a grade of B+ or better to permit graduation with Honors.
