History Major, BA


Majors in history should prepare their programs in consultation with a departmental faculty advisor.

Continuing, returning, and transfer students must meet progression requirements before declaring a major in history.

A student may not declare a history major until he/she has completed both semesters, with a grade of C or better in each course, of a survey chosen from HIUS 221 -HIUS 222 , HIUS 227 -HIUS 228 , HIEU 241 *-HIEU 242 *, HIEU 247 *-HIEU 248 *, HIST 261 *-HIST 262 * or any two one-semester courses from any of these sequences. AP (with a score of 4 or 5) or transfer credit is acceptable to fulfill this requirement.

Honors Concentration – History


The honors concentration consists of 33 hours. The honors concentration provides history majors the opportunity to work with a faculty mentor on an individualized research project. All declared history majors with an overall GPA of at least 3.25 are invited to participate in the honors concentration. A grade of B or above must be maintained in all honors courses, along with an overall GPA of 3.25. Students interested in honors work at any level should consult the department’s honors coordinator.
