Biological Sciences Major, BS – Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Concentration
|
|
The biological sciences major offers concentrations in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology; ecology and evolutionary biology; microbiology; and plant biology. To declare biology as a major, CHEM 120 *-CHEM 130 * and BIOL 111 *-BIOL 112 * or BIOL 130 * must be completed with a minimum grade of C.

Biological Sciences Major — Prerequisites to all Concentrations
A minimum grade of C must be earned in all prerequisites. EEB Concentration
The concentration consists of 33 hours. Complete:
- CHEM 350 - Organic Chemistry I
Note: While not required, CHEM 360 -CHEM 369 is recommended for students that plan to pursue medical professions and the following disciplines within ecology and evolutionary biology: physiological ecology, chemical ecology, environmental toxicology and molecular evolution and systematics. CHEM 360 -CHEM 369 can be applied to the ecology and evolutionary biology upper-division requirements and are listed under the physiology/chemical ecology category below.
II. Quantitative Requirement
B. Select one course (note prerequisites in parentheses):
III. Upper-Division Courses
A total of 24 hours is required at the 300 level or above. Fifteen of these hours must be EEB courses, (EEB 304 , EEB 305 , EEB 413 are not allowed for credit in the concentration) including one course from each of the following categories. Other courses, related to the student’s determined interests, may be approved by petition to the department and the division. Courses applied to the major must include at least 4 hours at the 400-level and one laboratory or field course. * indicates courses with lab or field component. A. Evolution (select one):
C. Organismal Biology (select one):
D. Physiology/Chemical Ecology (select one):
Honors Option
Requirements for the honors option are:
- fulfill all requirements for the major in biological sciences with a concentration in ecology and evolutionary biology
- achieve at least a grade of B in the individual concentration courses
- maintain a concentration GPA of at least 3.5
- maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.25
- complete 9 hours of honors-by-contract coursework in upper division level ecology and evolutionary biology courses available for major credit in the concentration, including at least one course from EEB 400 and EEB 493 .
- complete EEB 407 Senior Honors Thesis with thesis to be approved by student’s committee consisting of a thesis advisor and two additional ecology and evolutionary biology faculty members.
