AFST 220 - Environmental Justice, Climate Change, and Health3 Credit Hours
In this course, we will explore the multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks of environmental racism along with the uneven distribution of environmental hazards across communities of color. We will examine the way environmental problems exacerbate social inequality using a broad range of historical and contemporary case studies. The course will introduce students to environmental risks, covering key facts, and available interventions on the most important environmental risks including climate change, air pollution, water, sanitation and hygiene, and others. In addition, we will survey environmental racism as a global phenomenon and explore the emergence of the environmental justice movement. This course will have a strong focus on the experiences of people of African descent.
