HIEU 430 - Gender and Medicine in the Middle Ages

Surveys medieval approaches to medicine, health, and the body with a focus on women’s medicine and female practitioners. Explores the European inheritance of Greek and Arabic medicine. Topics include herbal medicine, distinctions between magic, religion, and medicine, institutions of medical learning, public health and varieties of practitioners.
