CEM 544 - Cancer Cell Biology3 Credit Hours Comprehensive discussion of the major mechanisms of cancer initiation, promotion, and progression. Emphasizes experimental approaches, signaling pathways, technology, and animal models that are employed to study cancer. Students are expected to learn about common laboratory techniques in cancer research, apoptosis/cell cycle, and the following as they relate to cancer: alternative splicing, signaling pathways, inflammation, chemo/dietary prevention, animal models, pathobiology, PET/CT imaging, genetics, lipids, radio-oncology, metastasis/angiogenesis, and obesity. Recommended Background: Advanced biology, including cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or genetics.
