LAW 896 - Law of the Workplace3 Credit Hours Explores federal and state regulation of the employment relationship. Focuses on state common-law doctrines, particularly the employment ‘at-will’ doctrine and its erosion through contract (e.g., employee handbooks), tort (e.g., fraud and defamation), and public policy claims. Addresses limits on employee conduct, including non-compete agreements and trade secret protections; laws dealing with whistleblowers, retaliation, and workplace privacy; and constitutional protections of employees’ free speech and free association rights. Considers federal legislation on minimum wage and overtime, family and medical leave, and ERISA. Registration Restriction(s): Law students only.
