Information Architecture and User Experience Graduate Certificate

This graduate certificate is for any new student, or currently or previously enrolled student at the University of Tennessee. The certificate prepares information and design professionals to work as an information architect or user experience professional anywhere in the world. There is no accrediting body for the degree, but as it is proposed, it becomes part of the vetted curriculum in the School of Information Sciences.

Admissions Standards/Procedures

A completed online application must be received by the Graduate School, and the applicant must meet the School of Information Sciences graduate program standards, including:

An undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or higher

A 400-700 word written statement of your career objectives

Letters of recommendation from 3 persons qualified to judge academic and/or professional qualities
Resume

Applicants with a master’s degree from another college or university may request a transcript evaluation to ascertain exactly what courses need to be completed.

Academic Standards

A minimum 3.0 GPA must be earned in all certificate courses.

15 graduate credit hours

Required Courses

Students must take the following three courses (9 graduate credit hours):
INSC 525 - Information Architecture
INSC 586 - Usability Testing and Evaluation
INSC 588 - Human-Computer Interaction
Students must take two of the following Elective Courses (6 graduate credit hours):
INSC 524 - Metadata
INSC 527 - Knowledge Organization Systems
INSC 563 - Data Management
INSC 565 - Digital Libraries
INSC 512 - Information Organization and Retrieval
INSC 589 - Web Design

Non-Course Requirements

To receive the certificate, students must:

complete the Graduate Certificate Course Verification Form and
through MyUTK, apply to graduate from the certificate program.
