Community Health Education Minor


A graduate minor in community health education (CHE) provides the graduate student the opportunity to build a strong methodological foundation which can be applied to public health and a variety of academic programs and research areas related to community health education. The minor is managed by the Department of Nutrition and Public Health Sciences that offers the core courses. A total of 12 credit hours (6 credit hours of required courses and 6 credit hours of approved electives) is needed to fulfill the CHE minor requirement.

Admissions Standards/Procedures


The Community Health Education minor is available to graduate students in good standing, with the consent of the student’s major professor and the MPH Program Director in the Department of Nutrition and Public Health Sciences. 

Academic Standards


3.00 grade point average for all graduate courses. A minimum grade of B+ in PUBH 552: Assessment & Planning is required for application to the Community Health Education minor.

These courses are required to fulfill the minor (6 credit hours total)

Program Electives


The student must choose at least two courses from among the selected courses. This list includes courses that are closely aligned with the community health profession and the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination. (6-7 credit hours of electives)

Note: Graduate students pursuing the Epidemiology (EPI) Concentration in the Department of Nutrition and Public Health Sciences may not select PUBH 536: Research Methods in Health as an approved elective for the CHE minor as this course is already a requirement for their given concentration.
