Advanced Educational Studies Concentration
The Master of Science degree with a major in Education and concentration in Advanced Educational Studies does not lead to initial teacher licensure; however, depending on the student’s program of study, may lead to an additional endorsement area for an already licensed teacher. Advanced Educational Studies programs are for students seeking to enhance their professional knowledge and expertise.
Admissions Standards/Procedures
- For all programs, students must meet all current graduate school admission requirements and departmental requirements in addition to submitting a graduate school application and a departmental application.
- Three letters of recommendation are also required.
- Admission to ASL Educational Studies Specialization, ASL Education Professional Internship, and ASL Education Practitioner Specialization courses requires a minimum score of Advanced level on SLPI or 3+ on ASLPI.
Credit Hours Required
- Thesis Option: minimum 30 graduate credit hours
- Coursework Only With Examination Option: minimum 30 graduate credit hours
Additional Course Requirements
- For Thesis Option:
- 6 graduate credit hours of related studies, selected inconsultation with and approved by the student’s advisor
- 6 credit hours of TPTE 500
- For Coursework Only With Comprehensive Exam Option:
- 12 graduate credit hours of related studies, selected in consultation with and approved by the student’s advisor
- For Both Options:
- Two-thirds of total credit hours for MS degree must be 500-level or above
Non-Course Requirements
- Thesis Option: Satisfactory completion of written thesis and oral defense of thesis
- Coursework Only With Comprehensive Exam Option: Satisfactory completion of a written comprehensive examination
Computing, AI, and Data Analytics in Education Concentration
The Computing, AI, and Data Analytics in Education Concentration concentration prepares students to design, develop, implement, and evaluate online learning environments. These skills will be desirable in a variety of contexts such as education, corporate, government, and nonprofit organizations.
Admissions Standards/Procedures
With their Graduate School Application, students submit their:
- CV/Resume
- Letter of Introduction
- Goal Statement
Upon faculty review, students will be notified whether they are admitted to the program or not. Credit Hours Required
33 graduate credit hours
Core Courses (12 credit hours)
Tracks (students pick one — 15 credit hours each)
Track 1: Data Science and Quantitative Methods
Track 2: AI and Emerging Technologies
Track 3: Pedagogy of Data, Computing, and AI
Additional Course Requirements
To meet program requirements, students must select courses in consultation with a program advisor. Program totals are minimums and some students may be required to complete additional coursework to overcome background deficiencies. Non-Course Requirements
- Students will complete an online portfolio to satisfy the requirement for a project for this non-thesis Master’s. The portfolio will be evaluated by a committee and a grade of Satisfactory/Pass is required to earn the Master’s degree.
- Students are required to meet the Program Participant Professional Disposition standards.
Learning, Design, and Technology Concentration
The Learning, Design, and Technology Concentration prepares students to design, develop, implement, and evaluate online learning environments. These skills will be desirable in a variety of contexts such as education, corporate, government, and nonprofit organizations. Admissions Standards/Procedures
