A concentration in sport management is offered at the master’s level in recreation and sport management. The program offers high-quality academic and professional experiences as it prepares students for careers in a range of areas, including marketing, sales, ticketing, personnel management, media, communications, compliance, equipment, event operations, and facility services with professional, collegiate, community, and youth sport and recreation organizations. The program offers considerable flexibility and can be designed to fit each student’s interests. A thesis and a non-thesis option are available with each requiring 36 hours for the degree.

Knoxville Campus Admissions Standards/Procedures
Sport Management Concentration- A minimum overall grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or a 3.00 GPA during the senior year of undergraduate study from a regionally accredited university or college is required.
- Applicants must first be admitted to the Graduate School as a graduate student, and then be admitted to the MS in recreation and sport management with a concentration in sport management.
- Admission priority is given to applications completed by February 1.
- Application requirements to the MS in recreation and sport management include submission of the online application to Office of Graduate Admissions along with the following items through the application portal:
- Department Application Form
- Transcripts
- Three (3) Rating Forms
- Resume
- Submission of GRE scores is optional
Sport Management Concentration — Thesis
The sport management concentration provides the opportunity for students to have a quality academic experience and to gain professional experience as they prepare for careers in the sports industry. Credit Hours Required
36 graduate credit hours Non-Course Requirements
- Preparation of a written thesis and undergo an oral defense
Sport Management Concentration — Course Only without Comprehensive Exam
