Students who are already in a Masters of Music program may also earn a certificate in music theory pedagogy. This program will provide graduate students with the coursework and practical experience needed to teach high school or undergraduate music theory courses. Home unit: Natalie L. Admissions Standards/Procedures
- To be admitted to this program, students must
- Submit the University of Tennessee’s online application and meet the Graduate Admission requirements for a certificate program;
- Submit the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music’s separate application from the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music’s website;
- Interview with the Music Theory faculty; and
- Have passed the Graduate Theory Diagnostic exam or MUTH 400. Please find additional information on graduate diagnostic exams here.
Credit Hours Required
15 graduate credit hours Analysis Course
Select one course (3 credit hours): Theory and Technology Elective
Select 6 additional credit hours from any 500-level MUTH or MUTC course.
