Philosophy Major, BA - Philosophy of Science and Medicine Concentration

The Philosophy of Science and Medicine Concentration examines the conceptual, ethical, and social foundations of scientific inquiry and medical practice. Students study topics such as the nature of scientific explanation, the relationship between science and values, ethical questions in health care, and the social impact of scientific and medical advances. The concentration develops skills in critical reasoning, analysis, and writing while preparing students for graduate study in philosophy, the sciences, or medicine, as well as for careers in health care, public policy, and related fields.

Concentration Requirements
The philosophy major with concentration in philosophy of science and medicine consists of 30 hours of courses. At least 6 hours must be taken at the 400-level or above; PHIL 407 may not be used to satisfy this 6-hour requirement. I. Complete: (9 Credit Hours)
II. Select one course from each area:
A. Ancient Philosophy (3 Credit Hours)
B. Modern Philosophy (3 Credit Hours)
C. Ethics (3 Credit Hours)
III. Select three courses: (3 Credit Hours)
IV. Select one additional Philosophy course (3 Credit Hours)
V. Proficiencies
Students are required to complete a 0-credit course, typically at the end of the student’s degree program. |
