Adaptive Sport and Recreation Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Adaptive Sport and Recreation (ASR) will prepare students with specialized knowledge and skills to design, implement, and evaluate programs and services in adaptive sport and recreation settings. Students will learn about classifications of disabilities, accessibility guidelines, legal aspects, and trends in organizations. Students will also learn about the foundational concepts of adaptive sport and recreation. Students will gain practical experience with adaptive equipment and learn how to safely promote and develop sport and recreation program.
These skills can be used in a variety of sport and recreation settings such as public and private recreation agencies and disability sports programs as well as assisting administrators in providing services to participants, spectators, and consumers with disabilities.
Enrolled University of Tennessee graduate students with an interest in issues related to Adaptive Sport and Recreation are eligible to apply for the graduate certificate program housed in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies .

Admissions Standards/Procedures
Applicants currently pursuing a graduate degree.
Academic Standards
Students must maintain a 3.00 graduate grade point average (GPA) once in the certificate. Requirements of the certificate must be completed before certificate will be awarded. Credit Hours Required
12 graduate credit hours.

Non-Course Requirements
To receive the certificate, students must: - Submit an appropriate work sample through RSM 501 Scholarly Inquiry or RSM 500 Thesis that is focused on topics related to adaptive sport and recreation. This work sample will be reviewed by the certificate coordinator and selected faculty.
- Engage in 16 hours of experiential learning in an adaptive sport and recreation setting.
- Complete the Graduate Certificate Course Verification Form.
- Through MyUTK, apply to graduate from the certificate program.
