This program is intended to equip students with bioinformatics knowledge and skills necessary in a range of settings, including post-graduate studies and work in industry, research institutions, and some government agencies. The program is designed to accommodate and support students with diverse backgrounds, including those with limited initial programming experience. By completing the two core bioinformatics courses, students will develop foundational computational skills. Subsequent upper-level electives will develop additional relevant skills in math, computing, statistics and/or biology that will help enable success post-graduation. For students who already have a strong background in one disciplinary area and wish to continue to prioritize, greater computational skills will allow pursuit of more advanced coursework in that desired area. By graduation all bioinformatics students will be able to identify important problems in bioinformatics and to develop relevant solutions.
