Progression Requirements
This program is for individuals desiring to teach deaf students. Progression to the Deaf Education 5-Year Graduate Internship Program requires a 2.75 cumulative GPA after a minimum of 12 semester hours of coursework and completion of ASL 111 *. Once candidates formally progress to the specialization, they must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 while in the program. Students must earn a grade of B or better in ASL 111 , ASL 112 , ASL 211 *, ASL 212 *, ASL 311 *, and EDDE 310, and a C or better in all teacher education courses. Students with less than a 2.75 GPA for two consecutive semesters will be dropped from the program. Students who fail to meet the standards for professional conduct during the course of their program and fieldwork will not be retained in the major.
This program is designed to be dual licensure. Upon successful completion of the program coursework, students will obtain teacher licensure in deaf education (P-12) and one additional area through the selection of Professional Elective courses: Art Education (K-12), ASL Education (P-12), Early Childhood Education (Birth-K), Elementary (K-5), Secondary (6-12), or Special Education Comprehensive (K-12).
Students must also obtain an Intermediate Plus rating level or above on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) in order to advance to the post-baccalaureate professional year and internship. Those pursuing licensure in ASL Education in addition to Deaf Education must obtain an advanced level or above on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview.

uTrack Requirements
Universal Tracking (uTrack) is an academic monitoring system designed to help students stay on track for timely graduation. In order to remain on track, students must complete the minimum requirements for each tracking semester, known as milestones. Milestones include successful completion of specified courses and/or attainment of a minimum GPA. uTrack requirements only affect full-time, degree-seeking students. Term 4

Students must apply to and be admitted by the Graduate School prior to registration. Students must also obtain an Intermediate Plus rating level or above on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) in order to advance to the post-baccalaureate professional year and internship. Those pursuing licensure in ASL Education in addition to Deaf Education must obtain an advanced level or above on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview. Term 9

- EI 335 , EI 340 , EI 345 , EI 350 , EI 355 , EI 360 and EI 440 are recommended for non-native users of ASL or those with an interest in interpreting. SPED 413 , SPED 414 , SPED 459 and SPED 490 may be combined with the selection of Elementary Education professional electives to obtain Deaf Education P-12, Elementary Education K-5 and Special Education Comprehensive K-12 licenses. Persons selecting the Secondary Education Professional Elective area should see an advisor for the appropriate methods courses to complete requirements for the secondary education license.

Coursework develops content area knowledge needed for pursuing a secondary education teaching license (6-12).
