A Humanities Certificate is open to all enrolled Knoxville Campus Students of any major. This certificate will prepare students for the complex, diverse, and rapidly changing world that awaits them. Students completing the 12 credit hours of coursework required for the Humanities Certificate will have the opportunity to make a wealth of interdisciplinary connections as they choose courses from Africana Studies, Art History, Classics, English, History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Theatre, and World Languages and Cultures. A wide range of courses taught by UTK’s expert faculty in each of these disciplines (e.g., 200-level introductory courses, specialized upper-division courses, research-intensive seminars, community-engaged courses, off-campus study) can satisfy the requirements of the Humanities Certificate.
12 credit hours of 200-400-level coursework.
At least 9 of these hours must be in upper-division courses. 6 credit hours must be unique, i.e., outside of the student’s major.
Courses for the certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. Depending upon a student's undergraduate program of study, prerequisite courses may be needed in order to complete the requirements of this certificate.
