Computational Social Sciences Minor

As an established element of the social sciences, computational social science comprises interdisciplinary skills for visualization and predictive modeling using social science data. This minor brings together approaches from different disciplines, including social sciences, geography, public policy, and information science. Examples of applications range from mapping and revealing sociodemographic factors across society, analysis of population-scale public health factors, exploration of innovation in science and public opinion, or topic analysis in communication and social media. The tools in the elective courses range from mapping and visualization to established statistics and regression analyses. Future additions may include machine learning and A.I.

Introduction: Complete one course (3 credit hours)
Choose one of these courses to start the minor. 15 credits are needed to complete the minor. In the sections that follow this portion – Analysis, Mapping and Applying – students must take at least one course from each section, and then an additional course from at least one section, so that the total credits is at least 15. Analysis: Complete one or two courses (3-6 credit hours)
Mapping: Complete one or two courses (3-6 credit hours)
Applying: Complete one or two courses (3-6 credit hours)
