Physics Major – Prerequisites (18-24 hours):

Students must earn a C or better in prerequisites to the major.

Complete A, B, C, or D below:

1. PHYS 135 - Introduction to Physics for Physical Science and Mathematics Majors I  4 Credit Hours *
2. PHYS 137 - Honors: Fundamentals of Physics for Physics Majors I  5 Credit Hours *
3. EF 151 - Physics for Engineers I  4 Credit Hours * and EF 152 - Physics for Engineers II  4 Credit Hours *
4. PHYS 221 - Elements of Physics I  4 Credit Hours *

Complete A, B, C, or D below:

1. PHYS 136 - Introduction to Physics for Physical Science and Mathematics Majors II  4 Credit Hours *
2. PHYS 138 - Honors: Fundamentals of Physics for Physics Majors II  5 Credit Hours *
3. PHYS 231 - Fundamentals of Physics: Electricity and Magnetism  3 Credit Hours *

Physics Major – Requirements (30 hours):

Honors Concentration – Physics Major, BA

Students who complete all requirements for the physics major (BA) will be awarded a degree with honors if their cumulative GPA is at least 3.25, their GPA in 300- and 400-level mathematics and physics courses is at least 3.50, they complete a minimum of 12 hours in honors courses, and they complete a written senior thesis reporting results of research conducted under faculty supervision and defended before a committee of three physics faculty members as recorded by satisfactory completion of:

• PHYS 498 - Honors Thesis in Physics
