Interdisciplinary Programs Major, BA - Public Policy and Administration Concentration

The Concentration in Public Policy and Administration is specifically designed for transfer students. or students who have completed 60 credit hours.
Admission Requirements
- 1Completed at least 60 hours obtained from an accredited institution(s)
- Returning veterans with at least 45 hours obtained from an accredited institution, and who meet the other requirements above, may apply.
- Current or former UT students may transfer to the online program if they have completed at least 60 hours and meet other admissions requirements.
- For prospective students with 50-59 transferable credits upon initial review (LD or better), we will request that these applications be forwarded to the College for additional review and consideration.
- Prospective students with less than 50 transferable credits upon initial review be denied unless they are a returning veteran who meet all other criteria.
- 2.0 or higher GPA
- Completed at least 27 hours in the following categories
- 6 hours of English Composition sequence (ENGL 101* and ENGL 102* or equivalent)
- 3-6 or more hours of Math (courses TBD)
- 4-8 hours of science with labs
- 9 hours meeting specific Volunteer Core requirements for Social Science, Humanities, Oral Communication, etc.
- (optional) replace 3 hours of Math with an additional 3 hours applicable to Vol Core
- 2 years of language study and a sequence in non-US History (or plan on completing that as part of their 60 hours in this program.)
1Students who earn a 2.0 GPA and have completed an AA, AS, AFA, or AST degree from a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) institutions will have automatic admission. If a student earns a degree through Tennessee Reverse Transfer, they are also eligible for automatic admission.
1Students who earn a 2.0 GPA and have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited instituion will have automatic admission.
1Students must complete all college requirements including foreign language and non-US history. Transferable coursework will be evaluated by the registrar upon admission. All coursework may not be degree applicable.

The major consists of 30 credit hours:
Primary Emphasis (9 credit hours)
Complete 2 courses (6 credit hours) from the following
Complete 1 course (3 credit hours) from the following
Secondary Emphasis - Choose 4 courses from one of the following 5 options (12 credit hours).
All courses must be distinct from the courses used for the Primary Emphasis. Option A - Political Issues & Society
Option B – Contemporary & Critical Issues
Option C - Professional Development
Option D - Method & Theory
Option E - Cultural Studies
Electives in Major (9 credit hours)
Choose up to 3 courses from a second Secondary Emphasis Area (must be distinct from the courses used for the Primary and Secondary Emphasis). Can replace up to 2 courses with up to 6 credit hours of INPG 492 - Off-Campus Study .
These are not part of the major but will be part of the 60-hour requirement and used to meet the Connections Requirement. Connections: Choose 3 courses (9 credit hours). All must be distinct from hours used for the major.
Additional Courses: (21 credit hours to get to 120 credit hours overall)
- Can include courses taken beyond those for the major used to meet the Foreign language and non-US History requirement
- Up to 6 additional hours of INPG 492
- 42 hours must be at the 300- or 400-level
