The Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications major is designed for students who want a broad, general background in agriculture and wish to develop their leadership and communication skills to pursue careers in business and industry, agricultural education, agricultural extension education, and agricultural communications. The community engagement and leadership development concentration is designed for students who want to develop leadership skills and pursue careers in extension, government, community or youth organizations, business/industry, or international environments.
Students who have an Associate of Science or Associate of Science in Teaching degree from a regionally accredited community college or have completed the Natural Science Electives, the first-year composition sequence, and Biological Science Electives may complete the Community Engagement and Leadership Development Concentration as an ALEC Distance Education student.

uTrack Requirements
Universal Tracking (uTrack) is an academic monitoring system designed to help students stay on track for timely graduation. In order to remain on track, students must complete the minimum requirements for each tracking semester, known as milestones. Milestones include successful completion of specified courses and/or attainment of a minimum GPA. uTrack requirements only affect full-time, degree-seeking students.

- Knoxville campus students interested in pursuing a career as an agriculture and natural resources Extension agent should complete 18 hours in one Herbert College of Agriculture department (not ALEC). Students are strongly encouraged to declare a minor in that department; however, if the minor requires less than 18 hours, students will need to take additional hours within the same department. Distance education students can select any course in the Herbert College of Agriculture not already required in the major.

- Knoxville campus students interested in pursuing a career in family and consumer sciences Extension should select 18 hours from HDFS 210 *, HDFS 213 , HDFS 220 *, HDFS 240 , HDFS 320 *, HDFS 360 ; HTM 101 , HTM 341; NUTR 100 *, NUTR 302 ; PUBH 201 *, and PUBH 315 .
- Any approved Engaged Inquiries (EI) elective except those with an ALEC prefix.
