The Sociology major consists of 31 hours. Ideally, students will take SOCI 321 and SOCI 331 * no later than their junior year. SOCI 480 will be taken in the senior year. An honors concentration is available.
The Critical Race and Ethnic Studies concentration is grounded in a theoretical tradition focused on a critical perspective to understanding race and ethnicity. Through a critical and historical lens, courses in the area interrogate how racial and ethnic categories coalesce around structural inequalities and across multiple geographies.
Requirements are SOCI 225 * or SOCI 343 * and two additional courses of either SOCI 452 , SOCI 460 , SOCI 466 , or SOCI 472 .
uTrack Requirements
Universal Tracking (uTrack) is an academic monitoring system designed to help students stay on track for timely graduation. In order to remain on track, students must complete the minimum requirements for each tracking semester, known as milestones. Milestones include successful completion of specified courses and/or attainment of a minimum GPA. uTrack requirements only affect full-time, degree-seeking students.
Following the sample academic plan and its uTrack milestones will help students stay on track to graduate in four years. For specific course requirements, refer to the description of the major and the Arts and Sciences requirements listed in the Catalog, and consult an academic advisor.
