The graduate certificate in Cultural Studies in Education is intended for those seeking to develop skills necessary when working with diverse populations, especially targeted, minority populations. Students currently enrolled in many of the graduate programs on our campus are seeking to understand their different fields of study through a cultural studies lens. A certificate in cultural studies in education will offer students a way to bundle the courses they are already taking so that they can present to future employers their skills in a way that is easily recognized.

Admissions Standards/Procedures
Certificate candidates must currently be admitted to a graduate program at the university or hold a terminal degree and be admitted to the graduate school in the certificate.
Academic Standards
A 3.50 graduate GPA must be earned in all certificate courses.
Credit Hours Required
15 graduate credit hours
Required Courses
- CSE 591
- At least one of the following
- At least two of the following
- An additional 3 credit hour course can be taken from the above list
Non-Course Requirements
- All 15 credit hours of graduate coursework must be completed at the University of Tennessee within five years of applying for a certificate.
To receive the certificate, students must:
1) complete the Graduate Certificate Course Verification Form (located on the Graduate School webpage under the Forms Central tab) and
2) through MyUTK, apply to graduate from the certificate program.
