Music Theory Pedagogy Graduate Certificate

Students who are already in a Masters of Music program may also earn a certificate in music theory pedagogy. This program will provide graduate students with the course work and practical experience needed to teach high school or undergraduate music theory courses.

Admission

To be admitted to this program, students must meet the Graduate Admission requirements for a certificate program, interview with the theory faculty, and have passed the Graduate Theory Diagnostic test or MUTH 400.

Program of Study

The certificate program consists of 15 credit hours of graduate course work: 3 credit hours of analysis (MUTH 520  or MUTH 521 ), 3 credit hours of technology (MUTC 540  or MUTC 550 ), 4 credit hours of pedagogy (MUTH 530  or MUTH 531 MUTH 590 ), 3 credit hours of theory and technology electives (MUTH 551 , MUTH 530 , MUTH 531 ,

 MUTC 593 ), and 2 credit hours of the final teaching project (MUTH 595 ).
