Veterinary Social Work Graduate Certificate

Students who are already enrolled in the Masters of Science in Social Work program may also earn a certificate in veterinary social work. This certificate program will provide students with the coursework and practical experience needed to incorporate and facilitate human-animal interaction programs and interventions in ethically sound ways.

Admission

To be admitted to this program, students must meet the Graduate Admission requirements for a certificate program, interview with the veterinary social work faculty, and have passed all course work in the foundation year of the Masters of Science in Social Work program.

Program of Study

The certificate program consists of 21 credit hours of graduate course work:

  • 3 credit hours of veterinary social work course (SOWK 567 )
  • 3  elective credit hours (SOWK 557 )
  • For EBIP students - 3 selective credit hours with assignment in the course on a veterinary social work topic (SOWK 570 , SOWK 571  or SOWK 572 )
  • For Organizational Leadership students - 3 required concentration credit hours with assignment in the course on a veterinary social work topic (SOWK 545 , SOWK 546 , SOWK 548  or SOWK 549 )
  • 12 credit hours in a field placement with a veterinary social work component

Other courses may, where appropriate, be substituted for the courses listed above with the permission of the director.
