The applied engineering and technology department will offer a transformative pathway to engineering education for TN students, particularly those who thrive on hands-on learning and seek tangible applications of theoretical knowledge. It provides a platform to channel their practical orientation into structured problem-solving directly relevant to industry. It will also offer opportunities to train students with an entrepreneurial mindset and there will be opportunities for students to participate and earn credits for an internship or co-op.
The applied engineering and technology department has four concentrations for the Bachelor of Science in Applied Engineering: energy conversion and storage, applied aerospace, applied manufacturing, and applied computer science. Students majoring in applied engineering will take courses relevant to their chosen concentration, which are designed to meet the needs of regional employers in growing workforce areas.
The AET department will emphasize hands-on learning, strong industry collaboration, and meaningful community engagement. The mission of the applied engineering and technology department is to:
- Develop industry-relevant programs and curricula that reflect the dynamic needs of industries, ensuring that graduates are always at the forefront of engineering advancements.
- Create a hands-on and applied learning environment that bridges theoretical concepts with tangible applications, preparing students to tackle real-world engineering challenges.
- Establish robust partnerships with leading industry stakeholders, providing students with invaluable exposure to ensure a seamless transition to industry.
- Engage in community outreach to foster a vibrant exchange with regional industries towards innovation, shared growth, and mutual benefit.
