CEM 621 - Advanced Geographical Epidemiology

3 Credit Hours
Course builds on the GIS & Geographical Epidemiology course (CEM 602). It is intended for students with interests in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), public health, medical geography, geographical/spatial epidemiology, and spatial biostatistics. Will introduce students, with prior knowledge in GIS and graduate-level statistics, to advanced methods for analysis of spatially referenced health data. Will emphasize application of spatial modeling techniques such as geographically weighted regression, Bayesian disease mapping, small area estimation, and interpolation/spatial prediction. Additional topics will include estimation of associations between individual-level health outcomes and area-level risk factors, and application of multivariate methods for computing composite area-level measures.
