CLAS 306 - History of Hellenistic Greece3 Credit Hours Greek history from Alexander the Great to the battle of Actium, with an emphasis on the 3rd-1st centuries BCE. Readings and discussion to include Alexander the Great and the expansion of the Greek world; monarchism, ruler-cult and the Greek city-state; economy and society in the Ptolemaic, Seleucid and Antigonid kingdoms; the arrival of Rome in the eastern Mediterranean; ancient and modern historiographies of Hellenistic Greece. Writing-emphasis course.
