Exploratory Students

Exploratory tracks are available to students who have not yet decided on a specific program of study. These programs allow students to explore major options as well as make progress toward graduation through the completion of general education courses.

  • College Exploratory programs are designed for students who are deciding among one or more majors in the same college. More information on College Exploratory programs is available below.
  • The University Exploratory program is intended for students who have no clear idea of which major to pursue and/or those who are trying to decide among majors that are not in a single college. More information on the University Exploratory program is available HERE .
  • The University Transition program is intended for students who find themselves ineligible for the major they initially intended to pursue. More information on the University Transition program is available HERE .

All full-time, degree-seeking students who first entered Fall 2013 or later must transition out of the exploratory track into a major no later than the end of their fourth tracking semester. Transfer students with less than 45 hours of transferrable work who are admitted as exploratory students must transition out of the exploratory track into a major no later than the end of their second tracking semester. Transfer students with 45 hours or more of transferrable work must be admitted directly into a major.

  • The University Transition program is intended for students who find themselves ineligible for the major they initially intended to pursue. Students will enter this major upon admission to the university as a transfer student but not into the major of first-choice or when as a continuing student they are no longer able to make progress toward their first-choice major. University Transition allows students an accelerated support and framework for exploring alternative major paths. University Transition majors will be required to meet with their advisor multiple times in the semester.

All University Transition students have one term to work with their advisor to declare an alternate major path. Students must transition out of the University Transition track into a major no later than the third day of their second full semester in the University Transition major
